Background

Essential Training Solutions (ETS) launched its first product, Essential Aromatherapy, in October 1998. This product received favourable reviews, was accredited by the prestigious Institute of IT Training with the Silver Award for Self Study Course of the Year 1998 and, most importantly, was received with much enthusiasm by students.

As a result of demonstrating Essential Aromatherapy in Schools, Colleges and at Exhibitions, requests came flooding in for further courseware. From these requests, reflexology was chosen as the next product. During the development stage, it became apparent that the Anatomy & Physiology section was sufficiently comprehensive to also be distributed separately. On 1st January 2000, Essential Reflexology and Essential Anatomy & Physiology – The Elementary Guide were launched. Students and tutors received both products with great enthusiasm.

1st July 2002 saw the launch of yet another new product - Essential Anatomy & Physiology. Over 300% larger than its predecessor, it took a deeper look at the body systems and, in doing so, took Essential Training Solutions into the Academic and Medical markets. In September 2003, Essential Anatomy & Physiology was approved by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Accreditation Unit until 14/09/06, and an e-learning version was launched in Spring 2005 and was linked to the RCN’s Online Learning Zone.

To support the complementary healthcare practitioner further, the Client Management System was released on 1st October 2003. This exciting product allows client details to be kept literally at the fingertips! Version 2 was released in autumn 2005 and includes enhancements suggested by enthusiastic existing customers, making this truly a program “for practitioners by practitioners”.

In spring 2006 we were delighted to become a VTCT Approved Centre to deliver an online Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology Diploma. This enabled us to issue a recognised certificate of competence to our own students and in 2008 the content of this course was approved by the FHT.

October 2008 saw the release of a VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Health, Safety, Security and Employment Standards, the FHT-approved Essential Health and Safety Diploma, and the Essential Health and Safety Resource. We also migrated all our courseware to a new, modern, intuitive and colourful Online Learning Environment that is conducive to studying and assessment, as well as being great fun to use.

In 2009 we joined forces with Llewellyn Europe (Safety Advisers) Ltd, to produce a Health and Safety Induction Course for SMEs. In October it received approval from IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health). This new product takes ETS into a completely different market and has its own web presence at www.startingworksafely.com .

The Autumn of 2009 also saw the release of the Essential Anatomy & Physiology Question Bank. Priced at just £6.99, this was the first ETS product ever to be sold for under £10.

In the first quarter of 2010 we released the Health & Safety Question Bank and the Aromatherapy Question Bank, and at the beginning of June we released a VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies, and a restructured FHT-Approved CPD course for those who wish to refresh anatomy & physiology and earn 20 CPD points.

On 22nd July 2010 we withdrew the long standing VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology (D1060), a week in advance of its withdrawal from the QCF. Its natural replacement was the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies, which received rave reviews. Then, at the beginning of August, we released an FHT-Approved Level 3 Diploma in Pathology. This Pathology CPD course contains the 72 conditions covered in the VTCT diploma and is ideal for extending or refreshing knowledge. On 18th August the VTCT confirmed an update to their Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology qualification. It now contains the "less common pathology" unit and we released it the same day! In September we began to offer CPD courses in partnership with the Association of Reflexologists and our working relationship has gone from strength to strength. On 1st October we entered a partnership with the Federation of Holistic Therapists to offer CPD courses to their members at a discounted rate.

In the first quarter of 2011 we were commissioned by the Association of Reflexologists to develop a Bridging Course to facilitate membership to those who qualified with the VTCT prior to January 2011. As a result of this course, we wrote an Additional Pathology course. This, in conjunction with our original Pathology course, covers all the conditions listed in the core curriculum. The combination of these two course created Complete Pathology, which is the recommended route to AoR membership for those with an ITEC or IEB qualification that contains insufficient pathology to meet membership criteria.

In July 2011 we released another VTCT accredited course. The Level 3 Award in Less Common Pathology for Complementary Therapies is worth 4 credits and is a useful add-on for those who are missing this valuable unit.

On August 1st, the content of Complete Pathology was released as a book entitled Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapies. Although written in partnership with the Association of Reflexologists, Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapies has no bias to reflexology. It is written as a generic guide to support ALL therapists.

February 6th 2012 saw the release a Reflexology Question Bank and Online Resource. Suitable for students or qualified therapists, this product contains quizzes, downloadable resources, case studies and video clips. At the beginning of March we released another question bank, this time to support the Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapies book.

On April 22nd we released an AoR-approved version of the Reflexology Question Bank and Online Resource that includes the AoR's foot charts.

At the end of May 2012 we were delighted to become an IFPA (International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists) CDP Approved Centre, offering CPD courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology and Health & Safety.

At the end of June 2012 we withdrew the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology and replaced it with the Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies (AC30407, QAN: 600/4845/1, Unit: R/503/7640), which hits the QCF on 1st September.

At the same time we were delighted to become the recommended training provider for Anatomy and Physiology for the Bowen Association and Bowen Training. Any Bowen therapist who does not hold an accredited qualification in Anatomy and Physiology is to be encouraged to take the VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies. In addition to this, ETS is providing refresher courses for Bowen therapists in Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Safety, and Pathology. Successful candidates will receive a Bow-Tech endorsed certificate.

Mid-August 2012 we were thrilled to announce that the FHT approved our new Further Pathology course and added our Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology to the list of the FHT/ETS partnership courses.

At the end of August the Client Mamagement System (V3) was released and we also made our first promotional videos for it. It is hoped that this system will help therapists run their businesses for many years to come.

In October 2012 we released a Maintaining Best Practice area on the web site to offer a selection of tutorials to help therapists keep up to date with working practices. As a part of this we also released a Protection from Abuse tutorial for free. All Maintaining Best Practice modules enable students to print off a certificate of participation for their CPD portfolios.

In November 2012 we entered the world of Kindle! A digital version of Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapies was released as a Kindle book and in an epub format. The Kindle version is available from Amazon and the epub version is available from digital book retailers such as Waterstones, Hive, Kobo, WHSmith and Tesco.

Early in January 2013, at the request of one of our valued affiliates, we released an online question bank to test the content of the Elementary Guide to Anatomy and Physiology.

2013 was a record year for us, in which we worked closely with many new affiliates and launched a new hosting and consultancy service to enable affiliates to run their own online courses using our software and expertise. We also upgraded the learning management system and opened the Swot Shop – a new shop window for our revision and reference products. We also started Tweeting!

We began 2014 by reviewing and improving the services we offer colleges, and incorporating question banks in the Essential College Resource. We put together a special Teacher’s Pet bundle of revision and reference products and added it to the Swot Shop.

In the summer of 2014 we introduced a free installation service for the Client Management System to ensure CMS is installed successfully and, at the same time, to provide a 15 minute consultation to get users started. We also began to include the Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapies book to the pack supplied to our VTCT students.

Later in 2014 we were delighted to be invited to run a workshop at the AoR Team Leaders meeting in London and then, on 31st October, ETS celebrated its 16th anniversary and issued 16 Lesser Known Facts About ETS and ran a prize draw for 16 roses. We continued to support our fast-growing group of affiliates with our hosting and consultancy service.

The first quarter of 2015 saw a record-breaking number of new students enrol. We started the year by launching bulk buy deals for colleges on the Essential Anatomy & Physiology and Complete Pathology for Complementary Therapy books, and were delighted to welcome several new affiliates on board.

In the early summer we updated our web site and began to offer a For Your Digestion document for download to show-case the business and our courses. We also added a photo gallery to the website and added a Freebies page on which our free Protection from Abuse course, course demonstrations and For Your Digestion can be easily accessible.

We also won an exciting contract with a university to supply online Anatomy & Physiology training to their trainee paramedics.

We spent the Autumn of 2015 working hard on the interactive Essential Anatomy & Physiology tutorial that is included in all of our level 3 courses, online resources and CD. The software was upgraded and we gave the tutorial a face-lift. It was very well received!

In spring 2016 we achieved the milestone of being an accredited VTCT for 10 years! This was celebrated and acknowledged in an article in the VTCT News. We are very proud that ETS was the first VTCT Centre to deliver VTCT accredited qualifications totally online.

Affiliates are now a large part of our business, and so we worked hard to enhance the affiliate packages that we offer, to make our services even more attractive and compatible to other training providers.

We were also delighted to announce that the FHT are to join the AoR in becoming a regular contributor to our quarterly e-newsletter, that now goes out to a mailing list of over 6,000 subscribers.

ETS has always been famed for its unrivalled customer service and this is evidenced no better than by the 100s of student testimonials that we receive. In the summer of 2016 we invested some time introducing a “star-system” to visually show the rating and percentage approval, and in September we had our 600th testimonial, giving us an overall 5-star rating with an astounding average of 97% for satisfaction in the 4 categories of ease of use, content, tutor support and value for money!

October 31st 2016 marks our 18th birthday, ETS truly has come of age! The last 18 years have been very exciting for Essential Training Solutions, and the Directors and support staff are totally committed to continuing to provide the quality products and high level of personal service already associated with this established company.

Technical Support

All products are vigorously tested before release and go through many levels of quality assurance. Every computer is different and so, occasionally, instances arise where a user requires technical support. This can be obtained by Contacting Us or calling the usual office number. Every effort will be made to identify what is causing the problem and to find a remedy. Should it be necessary, an evening telephone call can be arranged if the user is unable to have access to the relevant hardware during normal working hours. We do not consider a query to be finalised until we are assured that the customer is fully satisfied with the goods and the service received.
